At the reception, the Vietnamese official hailed the growing strategic partnership between Vietnam and the U.K. and thanked the U.K. for supporting Vietnam in climate change response initiatives. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State have spared no efforts and are committed to combating climate change.

Regarding Vietnam’s energy development policies, Anh affirmed the Vietnamese Party’ guidelines and State’s policies on giving priority to renewable energy development and promoting the building of clean energy projects, thus gradually reducing the development of coal-fired plants nationwide.

He suggested the U.K. continue assisting Vietnam in developing renewable energy and shifting to a low-carbon economy.

The host also asked the U.K. Government to create more favorable conditions for COVID-19 vaccine provision, consider transfer of vaccine production technology to Vietnam and dispense the country from copyright requirements.

For his part, the U.K. official lauded Vietnam’s guiding role in climate change response in ASEAN and its sound policies and achievements in renewable energy development.

He suggested Vietnam mobilize more resources to effectively exploit the potential of renewable energy and thanked the country for participating in and supporting the U.K.’s negotiations on joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
