Established in 1985, the Veterans for Peace, together with American peace lovers and other organizations, has made efforts to bring Vietnam and the U.S. closer together and to overcome war consequences.

Accordingly, on behalf of the VUFO leadership, Chien handed over a certificate of merit to the Veterans for Peace. Meanwhile, the insignia “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” was awarded to Paul Cox, a member of the Veterans for Peace.

Having been engaged in the war in Vietnam, he understood the pain left behind from the war for Vietnamese people. Therefore, he has encouraged other U.S. veterans to come back to Vietnam to actively help the Vietnamese people overcome war-left aftermath.

On the same day, the VUS also held a conference themed “Vietnam-U.S. veteran relationship: Understanding, cooperation and development” to discuss new measures to further develop the Vietnam-U.S. friendship, cooperation, and people-to-people ties.
