Present at the exchange were Deputy Minister of Education and Training and Chairman of the Vietnam - Belgium Friendship Association Pham Manh Hung, Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam Jehanne Rocas, and domestic and international delegates.

This year marks 40 years of the development cooperation between the two countries with good results in various different fields, such as hunger elimination and poverty reduction, water resources management and green growth in relation with climate change.

Addressing the exchange, Chairman Hung sent best wishes to the Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam and emphasized that this annual event was significant for the association’s members and Belgium-lovers to exchange information and experience and seek cooperation opportunities. These would serve to boost the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the governments and people of the two nations.

Hung also highlighted such prominent people-to-people exchange activities as delegation exchanges, friendly meetings, anniversaries of big events, photo exhibitions, gala evenings. He cited the activities as remarkable contributions to the flourishing ties between Vietnam and Belgium.

In her speech, Belgian Ambassador Jehanne Rocas emphasized that Belgians love peace and friendship and that Belgium was among the first Western countries establishing diplomatic ties with Vietnam right after the signing of the Paris Peace Accords.

She expressed pleasure at the development of the bilateral diplomatic ties via effective cooperation in different fields.

She also noted that the two countries will mark 45 years of their diplomatic ties next year and believed that the friendship will be increasingly tightened.

Belgium is an important partner of Vietnam with the two-way export turnover enjoying continuous increase in recent years. Besides, it is Vietnam’s eighth largest export market.
