Following the signing of a Strategic Partnership between Australia and Vietnam in March, the Governor-General’s visit will highlight the growing bilateral relationship underpinned by strong education, business, defence, and people-to-people links.

In Hanoi, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove will meet members of the Australian community before receiving a ceremonial welcome by the President, His Excellency Mr. Tran Dai Quang. The Governor-General will meet with the Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc; the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong; and Chairwoman, Her Excellency Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, following a wreath laying ceremony at the Monument of National Heroes and Martyrs.

As part of a wider bilateral program in Ho Chi Minh City, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove will join senior Vietnamese representatives to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations. They will also visit Vietnamese peacekeepers in recognition of the growing defence relationship, and will acknowledge the strong education and business links between both countries at RMIT University.
