Over the past time, Vietnam-China relations have maintained a positive momentum and achieved many important outcomes. Following President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Vietnam in December 2023 and the issuance of the joint statement on continuing to deepen and elevate the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries and building a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, 2024 saw vibrant high-level exchanges: all five top Vietnamese leaders visited China, while China’s premier and chairman of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee visited Vietnam.

This year, exchanges are promoted. General Secretary To Lam held a phone talk with General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, officially launching the Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange 2025. Senior leaders of both countries also exchanged messages marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1950-2025).
Since General Secretary To Lam’s visit to China in August 2024 and both sides’ agreement to build a shared future community, bilateral relations have developed positively, achieving remarkable outcomes in all areas: politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, defense, security, culture, education, local exchange, youth exchanges, and coordination in regional and international forums.
In 2024, Vietnam was China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and its fourth largest globally. Bilateral trade reached USD 205.2 billion, with USD 51.25 billion recorded in the first quarter of 2025 - a 17.46% increase year-on-year. China topped in newly licensed projects (955 in 2024), ranking third in capital value (USD 4.73 billion). As of December 2024, China had 5,111 valid projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of USD 30.83 billion, accounting for over 6.2% of total FDI.
President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit underscores China’s high regard for Vietnam-China relations, making him the most frequent Chinese leader to visit Vietnam. This will be his fourth state visit in his position and his second during the 13th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China.
This visit is of great significance, reaffirming the two parties’ and countries’ shared priority to develop a stable, sustainable relationship for mutual interests. The visit is taking place during the Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange 2025 and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The people of Hanoi and nationwide warmly welcome General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, with hope that this visit will mark a new milestone in the history of traditional friendship, helping orient and promote Vietnam-China cooperation for the interests of both nations.
