According to the Trade Ministry, in the first 5 months of this year, Vietnam earned 1 billion USD from exporting wooden products, an increase of 22.7% in comparison to the same period of 2006. Vietnam is expected to bring the figure to about 2.5 billion USD by the end of this year.

The Ministry said that wooden products had become one of the 10 key export items of Vietnam, and can enter hard-to-please markets such as the EU, US and Japan.

At present, Vietnam has about 2,000 businesses and households involved in wooden products manufacturing. Among them, 700 businesses are manufacturing products for export.

100 of these businesses are foreign invested ones and mostly located in the south such as Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Binh Dinh and many of them have extended production scales.
