Vietnam will implement the related contents of the Rio+20 Conference documents and accelerate the fulfillment of sustainable development goals, an official from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) has said.

Nguyen Le Thuy, deputy head of the MPI’s Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment, made the statement at a conference in Hanoi on July 11 to report on the results of the UN’s Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) and Vietnam’s post-Rio+20 action orientations.

She said the country will continue to implement Agenda 21 and the Sustainable Development Strategy in the 2011-2020 period through specific programmes on perfecting the institutional system on sustainable development, improving the quality of national administration for sustainable development and boosting activities for green growth.

The action orientations focus on increasing the role and participation of businesses, socio-political and professional organisations, non-governmental organisations and individuals in realising sustainable development goals, Thuy said.

It is necessary to strengthen the role and effects of science and technology, step up technological renovation in implementing green growth and sustainable development as well as expand international cooperation and develop partnerships for this field, she added.

According to Thuy, at the Rio+20, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between June 20-22, Vietnam presented two reports, namely “Realising sustainable development in Vietnam” and “Vietnam – some outstanding examples in sustainable development”.
