A seminar, co-organized by the office and the local chamber of commerce and industry, highlighted economic cooperation opportunities.
Ghardaia, about 600 km from Algiers, houses two industrial zones and UNESCO-listed heritage sites, offering potential in manufacturing, tourism, and exports. The chamber said Ghardaia encourages foreign enterprises to invest, with various tax and land leasing incentives.
Speaking at the event, Trade Counselor Hoang Duc Nhuan provided an overview of Vietnam’s economic and foreign trade landscape, as well as the bilateral trade and investment relationship.

He cited statistics from Vietnam Customs showing bilateral trade reached approximately USD 220 million in 2024. Vietnam’s key exports to Algeria included raw coffee, pepper, cashew nuts, desiccated coconut, aquatic products, and chemicals.
Meanwhile, imports from Algeria consisted of carob powder, pharmaceuticals, ores, recycled paper, animal feed, and chicken feet. In terms of investment cooperation, the joint venture between PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP), Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), and Algeria’s Sonatrach has been successfully operating the Bir Seba oil field in Ouargla province since August 2015, with a production capacity of 16,000 to 18,000 barrels per day.
Beyond the oil and gas sector, several Vietnamese business delegations visited Algeria last year to explore investment and joint venture opportunities in pharmaceuticals, functional foods, construction, and human resource supply.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Trade Office also introduced key international trade events in Vietnam this year, including the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival (March), Vietnam Expo (April and December), Vietnam International Sourcing Expo (September), and Vietnam Food Expo (November), inviting Algerian agencies and businesses to participate.
Local enterprises expressed interest in importing raw coffee, spices, rice, cashew nuts, sugar, plastic raw materials, and sports products from Vietnam. They also sought to export olive oil, dates, dairy products, margarine, and carpets to Vietnam, while exploring partnerships in textile-garment, agricultural processing, refrigeration equipment production, logistics, and tourism.
