Vietnamese karatedo martial-art fighter wins historical gold medal at int’l tournament
PANO - Vietnamese karatedo martial-art fighter Nguyen Thi Ngoan impressively won a gold medal at the Karate 1 Premier League-Leipzig 2017, in Germany.
She defeated Canadian fighter at the final of Female Kumite-61kg category and this is the best result in the kumite event for the Vietnam Karatedo team at a world-level tournament.
Ninty eight martial-art fighters competed in women’s 61kg category. Nguyen Thi Ngoan defeated Kandemir Zehra (Turkey) 1-0, Kornfeld Noemie (Switzerland) 2-0, Orbon Joane (the US) 3-0 and Heurtault Leila (France) 1-0 to enter the semi-final.
At the semi-final, she unexpectedly defeated the world champion Buchinger Alisa from Austria 2-0. At the final, she continued her impressive run and secured her win by vanquishing Canadian fighter Jumaa Haya.
The Karate 1 Premier League-Leipzig 2017 took place from September 8 to 10 with the participation of 1,384 martial art fighters from 87 countries.
Earlier in April this year, Nguyen Thi Ngoan brought home a bronze medal at the Karate 1 Premier League-Dubai 2017 and now Ngoan has tasked herself to win a medal at the 2018 Asian Games to secure her ticket to the 2020 Summer Olympics.
