In the decisive phase, training regimens have been adjusted to maintain the athletes’ technical sharpness, ensure physical fitness, and avoid overload. Rather than increasing the training volume, the gymnasts are focusing on perfecting each routine to minimize errors. In gymnastics, the stability of each movement holds paramount significance. Even a minor mistake can lead to point deductions and the chance to compete for a medal. Therefore, alongside technical preparation, the coaching staff pays special attention to psychological factors, helping the athletes maintain their focus and confidence during competition.

The Vietnamese gymnastics team is ready to participate in ASIAD 20. |
Among the eight Vietnamese gymnasts heading to ASIAD 20, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong is one of the most promising faces. Having won a silver medal at ASIAD 19, he is now aiming to improve upon this achievement. Phong shared that the team had prepared routines with technical scores comparable to those of their opponents and the host nation to enhance their medal-competing capabilities. He also affirmed that both his and the team’s morale was currently very high and that they were fully ready for the tournament.
To build such confidence, the gymnasts have undergone a long process of training and gaining competitive experience. While each athlete has their own strong suit, the common requirement remains maintaining stability and minimizing errors. Expressing high determination, Phong acknowledged the current difficulties but vowed to strive to defend his ASIAD 19 silver medal, with the ultimate goal of upgrading its color.
According to the coaching staff, the training focus was determined early this year. The athletes have followed an appropriate roadmap of training, testing, and competing to ensure they hit their peak performance exactly during ASIAD 20.
Besides Phong’s still rings, the Vietnamese gymnastics team also places high expectations on Trinh Cong Dung in the men’s vault and Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu in the women’s vault. Coach Truong Minh Sang noted that the coaching staff had prepared thoroughly for each event and organized multiple tests to evaluate the athletes’ progress. The goal is to vie for medals, but the prerequisite is performing well enough to advance to the finals.
Along with technical skills, physical fitness and mental preparation are two factors that special attention is paid to in the final days. Athletes are required to maintain a balanced lifestyle to ensure their health and prevent the risk of injury before departure. In addition, bonuses from the Viet Nam Gymnastics Federation have provided great motivation. Specifically, each gold medal will be rewarded with VND 100 million, a silver medal with VND 50 million, and a bronze medal with VND 20 million.
Although each of the eight athletes has different strengths and personal goals, they all share a common goal: to perform to the best of their abilities, reach the finals, and compete for medals. After days of diligent training, the Vietnamese gymnastics team is ready to take the floor at ASIAD 20 with the desire to leave a mark.
