Vietnamese chess player shines at Women's World Chess Championship
PANO - Vietnamese chess player Thao Nguyen shined at the Women's World Chess Championship in Tehran (Iran) after defeating world No.21 Alexandra Goryachkina by 1.5-0.5 within 69 moves in the second game, to advance to the third round.

Earlier, Nguyen, elo 2.351, had not been in the top 100 players. Meanwhile, Goryachkina had been considered a tough rival for the Vietnamese player with an Elo of 2,466.
Nguyen will compete in the third-round against world No.3 Anna Muzychuk (Elo 2,558), who is also reigning world rapid and blitz chess champion.
This year’s tournament is taking place from February 10 to March 5 in Iran with the participation of 64 outstanding chess players worldwide. The champion of the tourney will be awarded USD 60,000 in cash.
