During the week-long event, which is hosted for the first time by Vietnam, there will be ten categories for athletes ranging from U48kg to over-81kg.
Vietnam will compete in all classes. The medal hopes are on Luu Thi Duyen in the 60kg and Le Thi Bang in the 54kg pools.
Both of them are two of the most experienced athletes in the national team. They also won medals at the Asian Games. Three years ago, they grabbed bronze medals at the Asian Games in Incheon, the Republic of Korea.
“We hope the tournament will be a good chance for Vietnamese boxers to show off their abilities against strong rivals in Asia,” said Vu Duc Thinh, head of the Boxing Department.
The tournament is free for all supporters and is being held at the Nguyen Du Gymnasium.
In the previous championship in 2015, Vietnam sealed a bronze by Ha Thi Linh in the 64kg discipline. The best results at the tournament were two silver medals by Ngo Thi Phuong (48kg) and Nguyen Thi Vui (60kg) in the 2008 version.
