He was followed by cyclists Trinh Duc Tam from the Hat Ngoc Troi (Heavenly Pearl) team and Huynh Thanh Tung from the Military Region 7 team.

In spite of unfavorable weather conditions, strong encouragement of viewers along National Road 1A and in Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province helped the participating athletes complete the fifth stage successfully.

During the race, cyclist Nguyen Cuong Khang from the Ho Chi Minh City team who had held the yellow jersey in the four consecutive stages and cyclist Le Nguyet Minh from the VUS (Vietnam USA Society English Centers) team in Ho Chi Minh City who had won the green jersey in the second, third and fourth stages always took the lead.

After the five stages of the tournament, cyclist Nguyen Cuong Khang from the Ho Chi Minh City team successfully defended his yellow jersey, while Le Nguyen Minh from the VUS team in Ho Chi Minh City retained his green jersey.

The same day, delegations of the organizing panel offered incense in commemoration of fallen soldiers at the Truong Son and Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemeteries in Quang Tri province. The organizers also paid tribute to martyrs at the Gio Linh district War Cemetery and Gio Thanh commune War Cemetery, where the People’s Army Newspaper’s reporters, Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, Martyr Le Dinh Du, and Martyr Nguyen Ngoc Nhu, are resting in peace. The two reporters sacrificed themselves in the Quang Tri theater during the resistance war against the American imperialists.

In a solemn and moving atmosphere, the delegates deferentially showed their deep gratitude to significant contributions of fallen soldiers to national liberation and reunification in the past and the current construction and defense cause and the noble international service.

On July 20, the cyclists competed in the sixth and final stage of the tournament around the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel with a distance of 52.8 km.
