At the event

The event saw the attendance of poets and writers from Vietnam and RoK.

The collection features 42 poems by 21 Vietnamese and 21 RoK poets. The poems have been selected, translated, and presented by RoK poets, with an introduction written by Vietnamese poet Vu Quan Phuong.

Speaking at the event, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, President of the Vietnam Writers' Association, expressed his respect for RoK literature and affirmed the cultural relationship between the two countries.

"Vietnamese writers always treasure works and authors of RoK and the Vietnam - RoK relations in general and the relationship between the two countries’ artists and writers in particular have been filled with many good values," he said.

For his part, Professor and writer Bang Huyn-suk underlined that hundreds of years ago, intellectual writers from Vietnam, such as Phan Boi Chau, had best-selling works in RoK. Many writers and poets, including Bao Ninh, Nguyen Binh Phuong, Nguyen Quang Thieu, Nguyen Ngoc Tu, etc. received great sentiment from RoK readers. The works of Han Kang, a female RoK author awarded the Nobel Prize, were first introduced in Vietnam. Through many years of cultural exchange and cooperation, the friendship and close-knit ties between the two countries have contributed to promoting the development of literature.

He also hoped that the bilingual poetry collection will help readers from RoK and Vietnam get a deeper understanding of the poetry and people of the two countries.

In recent years, cooperation in literature between Vietnam and RoK has intensively developed. In early 2024, a delegation of 16 RoK poets attended the 22nd Vietnam Poetry Day which was held at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. The launch of this poetry collection marked an important milestone in literature exchange, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and cultural understanding between the two nations.
