With diverse interesting activities, the festival aims to honor and preserve Vietnam’s salt industry and popularize and build the unique characteristics and strengths of salt products and salt industry in Bac Lieu province in particular and the country as a whole.

The salt festival 2024 will feature around 100 booths to introduce various salt products, industrial salt, salt and tourism, OCOP (one commune - one product) products, equipment and technologies for salt production and processing. There will also be an investment promotion conference in the agricultural and rural sectors and a workshop on "Applying scientific and technological advancements to salt production and climate change adaptation."

Various sidelines activities, such as experience tours, field surveys of salt fields in Bac Lieu, and a drawing contest, will be held.  

Bac Lieu salt, also known as Ba Thac salt, is a renowned traditional brand. With a history of over 100 years, Bac Lieu salt becomes the traditional craft of farmers in the Southern province.

As one of the provinces in Vietnam with a large salt production area, covering nearly 1,500 hectares, Bac Lieu produced over 27,000 tons of salt last year. The average yield reached nearly 17 tons per hectare for traditional salt production and over 37 tons/hectare for sun-dried salt. There were a total of 767 households engaged in salt production in 2023, employing 1,520 workers. In late 2020, the salt industry in Bac Lieu was recognized as National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
