Vietnam-Laos symposium discusses protection of traditional cultural values
Scholars from Vietnam and Laos shared the view that the Parties, States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos should work together to protect their traditional cultural values.
That would be the best way to
protect the valuable asset of the special friendship between the two countries
in the context of strong international integration and impacts of the market
economy, they said at a symposium in Ho Chi Minh City on December 29.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dexanourath
Seneduangdeth from the National University of Laos (NUL) said the traditional
cultural values of Vietnam
and Laos
have been developed through thousands of years, serving as a firm foundation for
each nation to move ahead.
Therefore, he said, such values need
to be preserved and carried forward in the context of globalisation and
international integration.
Dr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Director of the
Vietnam National University
- Ho Chi Minh (VNUHCM), underlined the need to find a cultural policy suitable
with the reform process of each country.
Apart from encouraging cultural
exchange and absorbing selectively cultural values of the era, it is necessary
to raise public awareness of traditional cultural values as well as the
significance of the protection and promotion work, he said.
The symposium, jointly held by the
NUL and the VNUHCM, brought together lecturers and researchers from 20
universities and research institutes of Vietnam
and Laos.
