Activity to promote ethnic minority groups’ cultural values
PANO – A space introducing culture, tourism and special products of 19 ethnic minority groups in Ha Giang province was opened in Hanoi by the municipal People’s Committee on October 27.
The three-day event aims to popularize the image of the mountainous province to both domestic and international tourists.
An artistic performance at the opening ceremony
Located in the far North of Vietnam, Ha Giang province is rich in culture as it comprises 19 ethnic groups, including the H’mong, Tay and Dao groups who have different traditional cultural heritages, customs and products. Many of the ethnic minority groups in the province still preserve and promote traditional festivals and rituals, such as “Cap sac” (a rite of passage to adulthood), “Gau tao” (a festival to pray for good weather, good harvest, peace and health) and “Long tong” (festival to pray for favorable weather, healthy crops, health and a happy life).
Over the past years, the leadership and people of Ha Giang province have developed its economy with the focus on tourism, furthering the elimination of hunger and reduction of poverty. The province has invested much in developing its special tourism products to meet the target to welcome 1.5 million visitors by 2020.
Ethnic minority people’s traditional clothing introduced at the event
To achieve the goal and promote the special cultural values of the province, Ha Giang has developed some effective products, including the annual “Tam giac mach” (buckwheat) flower festival. As planned, this year’s event will be organized on November 24 in Dong Van Town with different activities, such as an exhibition on tourism and agricultural products of Ha Giang’s ethnic groups in Hanoi, a concert at the foot of Lung Cu Flag Tower and a parachuting activity.
