Ho Chi Minh City’s students are excited to explore a combat structure in the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Relic Site. |
Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Command organized a program for students to visit and explore the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Relic Site. During the program, students participated in many meaningful activities such as offering incense in tribute to heroic martyrs, listening to the tunnels' history, watching documentary and historical films, and crawling through the tunnel system themselves.
Vo Thi Thuy Lan, a student from District 10, shared, “At first, I felt a bit nervous crawling into the tunnels because the entrance was small and dark, and I had to bend low to move forward. But once I got inside, I was really excited. Every step I took helped me imagine the hardships and bravery of Cu Chi’s soldiers and civilians during the resistance war that contributed to various victories.”

According to Lan, the trip not only helped her learn more about the nation’s history but also sparked pride of the national traditions. She hoped to have more opportunities to visit historical sites to better understand the heroic past of the nation.
Engaged in the program themed “Proud to be children of city named after Uncle Ho” launched by the Southern Women’s Museum, students from schools throughout Ho Chi Minh City were excited with the artifacts and stories about heroic women. After exploring the exhibition rooms, they also joined interactive activities and lively Q&A sessions about traditions, folk games and cultural and artistic exchanges. These experiences helped them retain knowledge and better understand Vietnam’s culture and identity while instilling patriotism.

Tours to other historical sites or museums in Ho Chi Minh City are also interesting and meaningful to participating students. At the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History, students can explore the country and the city’s history through artifacts, photos, and simulations. The War Remnants Museum provides young visitors with lessons on resilience and patriotism, helping them understand more about the resistance war against the U.S. imperialists for national salvation. Attentively, these museums are active in technology application, using automatic audio guides and interactive screens, to make learning more engaging and accessible for students.
In addition to historical site visits, students can join summer activities like creative camps, life skills classes, or extracurricular activities including swimming, camping, sports, cultural exchanges, and folk games.
In suburban areas, farm trips provide students with experience of being farmers and learn how to care for plants and animals. In inner-city areas, there are sports classes covering swimming, football, basketball, aerobics, and dance.

Senior Colonel Le Van Dung, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Site, shared that alongside the vivid creation of the life of Cu Chi’s soldiers and civilians during the war, the relic site also focuses on enhancing the expertise and soft skills of tour guides, especially in organizing engaging activities for students.
These summer experiences not only bring joy, but also offer students valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and explore history and new horizons. They help nurture their love for the homeland and the nation, while steering them away from cell phones and online games as well as protecting them from potential social issues.
