The 11th Asian Continental Chess Championships opened in Ho Chi Minh City on May 5 with the participation of more than 120 men and women players from 14 countries and territories in Asia.
One third of players competing in the men's events are international Grand Masters.
The host team from Vietnam consists of 40 players, including talents such as Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Hoang Bao Tram, and Pham Le Thao Nguyen.
Players will compete in nine or eleven rounds of standard and blitz events according to the Swiss System.
A total of US$65,000 will be awarded in prizes at the tournament.
According to the tournament regulations, the leading five male and one female in the standard chess event will qualify for the finals in the World Chess Championships.
