Program inspiring young people to wear "ao dai"
PANO – More than 3,000 people participated in an "ao dai" (Vietnamese traditional long dress) performance at the pedestrian street of Nguyen Hue in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City and paraded along the street to spread the dual messages, “I Love the Vietnamese 'ao dai'” and “Graceful 'ao dai' - Ho Chi Minh City” to the watching local community and visitors.
The activities, jointly held by the municipal Department of Tourism and the Vietnam Women’s Union, aimed to inspire young people to value the Vietnamese traditional costume as well as popularize "ao dai" to international friends.
On the occasion, the organizers launched a program to present "ao dai" to female workers, teachers and students in the outskirts of the city and hand over scholarships and dressmaking fabric to needy high school students with good academic results. At the launching ceremony, over 50 scholarships and "ao dai" were handed over to needy students with good academic results in the Southern hub.
On the same day, Dau An Sai Gon Real Estate Investment and Development Joint-stock Company in association with Ao dai Museum opened an exhibition displaying more than 50 items, including an imperial mantle of the Nguyen Dynasty, "ao dai" of famous female leaders who gave great contributions to Vietnam’s military, politics, diplomacy, culture and healthcare as well as information about the history of Vietnamese "ao dai." The event also introduced special "ao dai" designs with patterns, showing the cultural connection between Vietnam and foreign countries.
