Preserving the black color of Yang Tao pottery
PANO - Lying at the foot of Chu Yang Sin mountain range, Yang Bac village of Yang Tao commune, Lak district, Dak Lak province, is the only place in the Central Highlands that still preserves the ancient pottery craft of the M’nong R’lam ethnic minority group.
In this craft, women are the main makers. Therefore, M’nong R’lam women play a vital role in preserving and promoting the traditional pottery craft.
To make pottery products, local women have to search for clay in places with clean water sources, such as the beginning of the stream running at the foot of the Chu Yang Sin mountain range. The clay then is mixed with water and pounded to make it easier to shape. Local women use their hands to make the clay smooth, and create different shapes, depending on the to-be-made products.
The Online People’s Army Newspaper would like to introduce several photos of the Yang Tao pottery-making process.
