Preserving cultural heritage of Khmer people in Soc Trang province
PANO - Currently, Soc Trang province is home to eight national intangible cultural heritage elements, including five of the Khmer people.
The five intangible cultural heritage elements of the Khmer people consist of Ghe Ngo (Khmer Boat) Race, du ke (a unique style of musical theater created by the Khmer in Southern Vietnam), Romvong dance, Pentatonic music performance, and Robam dance.
In order to preserve and promote the value of the cultural heritages, over the past time, Soc Trang province has developed suitable policies, focusing on upholding and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minority groups in line with tourism development, under the national target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the 2021-2023 period. Thereby, the unique cultural values of the Khmer people have been preserved and promoted, contributing to building the Vietnamese culture rich in national identity.
