Pac Mong Festival is closely associated with the distinctive cultural features of the Long Tong Festival, a celebration of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups that marks the beginning of the new crop season.

The festival is also linked to the historical site of Pac Mong Temple. As the legend goes, this temple is dedicated to worshiping King Dinh Tien Hoang and the generals who led battles against invaders and suppressed unrests in border areas. The local people collectively donated to build the temple as a tribute to the contribution of King Dinh Tien Hoang.
