A ceremony to launch the Olympic Run Day for Public Health 2016 was jointly held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Hanoi People’s Committee and the Vietnam Olympic Committee on March 26.
The event drew the participation of state officials, heads of ministries, branches and agencies, artists, students and 7,000 Hanoians.
Addressing at the ceremony, Vice President of the municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy highlighted that President Ho Chi Minh’s call for all people to exercise to stay healthy is still relevant today.
Right after the ceremony, the delegates and local residents ran around Hoan Kiem Lake in an ebullient atmosphere.
Some 7 million Vietnamese people in 63 provinces and cities nationwide attended similar activities on the same day.
The event aims to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day (March 27, 1946-2016) as well as encourage people to exercise regularly for better health.
