A Vietnamese lantern festival will light up Wernigerode, Germany, during the Vietnamese Culture Week from July 26th to July 28th.
Secretary of the Hoi An Party Committee Nguyen Su confirmed that a delegation from Hoi An will attend this cultural week, themed “Hoi An Lantern – Vietnamese Distinguished Guests”.
Last year, a delegation from Wernigerode City, led by Mayor Peter Gaffert, visited Hoi An City, and on this occasion the two cities signed a memorandum of understanding to boost cooperation.
Mr. Gaffert said that the close relationship between Hoi An and Wernigerode was based on their similarities in geography, culture, economy and tourism.
During the Vietnamese Culture Week to introduce typical cultural identities of Vietnam in general and Hoi An in particular, the two sides are expected to sign an agreement to twin the two cities.
This is also a chance for businesses of the two countries and cities to learn more about each other and seek cooperation opportunities in infrastructure development, economy, culture and tourism.
Wernigerode, a small city in Harz County, has a population of about 35,000 people and more than 2,000 old houses.
