A scene in the five episodes: Vietnamese liberation troops in a battle in Tan Son Nhat International Airport

Each 30-minute episode is part of the 22-episode series titled “Chosen Path” which features the time when Uncle Ho left Vietnam to find ways to save the country to the present time.

In these five episodes, from the 15th to 19th of the series, historical stories will be revived vividly, objectively, multi-dimensionally and from the perspective of today with images of high accuracy.

The director of the documentary series People’s Artist Le Thi said that each of the five episodes covers a historical period of the anti-American resistance war for national salvation. They show the remarkable developments of the national liberation war that was ended in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign. The five episodes also give a good review of the fierce fighting in Phuoc Long, the combat on the Buon Ma Thuot theater, the Politburo’s building of a two-year plan for South liberation, and battles to liberate Hue, Da Nang and Sai Gon (present Ho Chi Minh City).

According to the director, the films have used newly-collected and decoded documents along with the old ones, giving audiences a new insight into the history.

The 15th episode is about our armed forces’ and people’s big victories in the Southern battlefields in 1972 and the “Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory in the Hanoi airspace. The very victories forced the US to sign the Paris peace agreement and withdraw its military force from Vietnam.

The 16th episode talks about the revised plan to liberate South Vietnam right in 1975. It features various major battles, including Operation Road 14-Phuoc Long in which our forces liberated the first-ever Southern province of Phuoc Long. This operation was of significance as via the operation the Party and State could know if the US would send troops back to South Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the 17th episode depicts the General Offensive and Uprising of Spring 1975 with Operation Buon Ma Thuot as a key and curtain-raising battle. In the next episode, the Politburo decided to make a strategic general offensive, mobilizing all resources to liberate the South. Under the sound leadership of the Politburo, Vietnamese people and troops successfully liberated Hue, Da Nang, the entire Centre and islands in the Central waters occupied by the Saigon Government’s troops.

The 19th episode features the final victory of the Vietnamese people and army in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the biggest campaign in the history of the Vietnam People’s Army. The victory also resulted in the liberation of the South and national reunification.

The documentary series are hoped to give an overview of the protracted and great struggle of the Vietnamese people and army against the foreign invaders in the 20th century.

The screening of the five documentary episodes is to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2020).
