Lao PM to attend the 39th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee
PANO – Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith and his entourage on February 7 arrived in Vietnam to attend the 39th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
The Lao delegation includes leaders of Ministries of Finance, Planning and Investment, Industry and Trade, Public Works and Transport, Education and Sports, Energy and Mines, National Defense, Foreign Affairs, Public Security, Home Affairs, etc.
Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith
Sisoulith was born on November 10, 1945 in Houaphan province. He graduated from the Pedagogical College of the Lao Patriotic Front in Houaphan in 1969 and holds a Master’s Degree in Linguistics and Literature and a PhD Degree in the History of International Relations.
From 1979 to 1981, he was Secretary to the Minister of Education, Director of the External Relations Department of the Ministry of Education. From 1985 to 2016, he was appointed to different posts, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Lao National Assembly, Deputy PM, President of the Committee for Planning and Investment, President of Investment Management Committee, President of the Lao National Committee for Energy, and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He became Prime Minister in April 2016.
The 39th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee will take place on February 8 in Hanoi to reaffirm the two countries’ foreign policies to develop their traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation. It is also to strengthen mutual political trust and foster the implementation of high-level agreements, contributing to developing Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the coming time.
