Japan continues supplying non-refundable aid for Cambodia

The Japanese Government has agreed to provide a non-refundable aid package worth JPY 3.206 billion (equivalent to USD 30 million) for the Cambodian Royal Government, according to the Japanese Embassy in Cambodia and Cambodian press agencies on October 1.
An agreement to this effect was signed on September 27, detailing that the package will be used for increasing the capacity of bus transportation in Phnom Penh and supporting unexploded ordnance (UXO) victims.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Long Visalo said the bus transportation capacity enhancing project worth JPY 1.396 billion will look to improve traffic and the living environment in the capital.
The project supporting UXO victims will cost JPY 1.81 billion. It will be carried out in the districts of Ba Nan, Rattanak Mondol and Sam Lot, Battambang provinces, targeting to enable 21,000 local people to live in safe, improved living conditions with new roads and water sewages and farming training courses.
In 2015, Cambodia received over USD 67.45 million in non-refundable aid and USD 146.6 million in preferential aid from the Japanese Government.
In the first half of this year, it got over USD 42.64 million in aid from Japan.
