Earthquake strikes off Indonesia's Aceh province
A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia’s Aceh province early on April 8 (local time), according to the country's meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency.
The tremors occurred at 2:48a.m. (Jakarta time), with the epicenter located 62km Southeast of Sinabang city in Simeulue regency, at a depth of 30km beneath the seabed, it said.

There have been no reports of casualties or damage caused by the earthquake, nor has there been a tsunami warning.
The agency initially reported the magnitude of the quake at 6.2 before revising it down.
Indonesia, an archipelagic nation, is prone to earthquakes due to its location on the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire. The country also has 127 active volcanoes and frequent tectonic activity.
