Spring in Pho Tro
PANO - Pho Tro village looks like a watercolor painting with a crystal clear lake circled by houses amidst the dry rugged rock valley.

As a small village near Pho Bang townlet in Dong Van district, Ha Giang province, Pho Tro is some 5km from Pho Bang Border Gate. This place is blessed with charming beauty and its highlight is the one-hectare Rong (Dragon) lake that never dries up. This is considered a rare phenomenon in a karst plateau; therefore, local people always respect and carefully preserve it. |

Surrounding Rong Lake are typical rocky walls of Dong Van Karst Plateau. Under the new-style rural program, Pho Tro has been built into a tourist and cultural village with its own headquarters, a spacious primary school, and an inter-village road to each household. Besides, with financial support, each local household has its own toilets and bathrooms. |

A corner of an earthen house in Pho Tro village. The materials for and structure of the house make its interior warm in winter and cool in summer. Tourists can find similar houses with rammed earth walls made by local ethnic minority groups in other localities such as Lang Son and Lao Cai provinces. |

In spring, tourists can see rows of bright yellow mustard flowers by rocky walls. The best time to visit Pho Tro and Dong Van Karst Plateau is between February and mid-March. |
