Due to its remoteness, the island once was isolated and had a very different pace of life. Currently, Phu Quy Island has chosen tourism as its key economic sector, and passenger ships have been equipped with modern facilities. Now it takes about 2 hours and a half to travel from the mainland to the island.

At present, Phu Quy Island has invested in building a system of sea embankments, ports, and anchorages, gradually becoming a solid outpost in the East Sea (internationally South China Sea) and the rear of Truong Sa island district. Situated far from the mainland, many areas on the island are affected by the south wind and Northeast monsoon. For hundreds of years, islanders have built windbreaks to adapt to this. Moreover, border soldiers now stand side by side with people to share their difficulties.

Phu Quy Island is witnessing travel fever like Ly Son Island (Quang Ngai province). The distinctive features of Phu Quy are attracting a growing number of tourists each year. According to statistics, the island received more than 166,500 tourists in 2023. In the first 3 months of 2024, the island welcomed nearly 24,000 visitors.

Coming to Phu Quy Island, if visitors go deep into the fields located in the forest, they will discover many interesting stories. Visitors will not only be immersed in the wonderful beauty of nature but also have an opportunity to enjoy delicious specialties.
