These days, coming to Hanoi, visitors have a chance to enjoy the cool climate and peaceful and romantic scenery. Also, they can take a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake (Sword Lake), West Lake, and Long Bien bridge to admire ancient architectural works and try Hanoi’s food in autumn. Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion, said that perhaps only Hanoi has such a beautiful autumn.

Recently, Hanoi was voted by CNN News Agency (the U.S.) as one of the 12 most ideal destinations in the world during fall. CNN said that Hanoi becomes drier and cooler in the fall after the end of the rains in summer. The capital is also a perfect place for food lovers around the world.

This year, Hanoi has held the Hanoi Autumn Festival for the first time to introduce autumn’s distinct beauty to tourists.

According to, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, with the aim of gradually turning tourism into a key economic sector, the capital has promoted its potential and advantages to build new tourism products associated with the capital’s specialties. The 2023 Hanoi Autumn Festival program is organized to contribute to the process of growth and comprehensive development of the capital’s tourism, both in scale and service quality, ensuring the sustainability, diversity, competitiveness and development of high-quality tourism products, imbued with national cultural identity and being environmentally friendly.

Affirming Hanoi autumn’s beauty in tourists’ hearts

After three days (from September 29 to October 1), the Hanoi Autumn Festival attracted nearly 80,000 tourists.

The highlight of the festival is the Hanoi Autumn Carnival which is elaborately staged with the performance of nearly 2,000 people from localities across the city. Lion and dragon dance performances, Ao dai parades, pedicabs, land puppets, flute kites, among others, proved that Hanoi is not only a place to preserve the revolutionary historical values but also  a treasure of unique cultural heritage of Vietnamese ethnic groups and has numerous wonderful landscapes.

In particular, local people and visitors to the festival had new experiences in foreign countries’ stalls. For example, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center of the Indian Embassy in Hanoi offered visitors opportunities to try Indian cuisine and spices, traditional costumes, and Henna painting, among others.

Moreover, during the festival, the culinary space is the place attracting the most visitors. Apart from famous food in Hanoi, including Pho, green sticky rice of Vong village, “bun oc” (noodle with snails), spring rolls, there are a lot of delicious foods from several localities in the country, such as Pho from Nam Dinh province, “mi Quang,” avocado ice cream from Da Nang, to name but a few.

Along with enjoying food, visitors also have the opportunity to experience making Pho and pounding Vietnamese steamed pork sausage, called “gio lua,” as well as attend a seminar on Vietnamese fish sauce - a pride of Vietnamese people when talking about homeland cuisine.
