Vietnam attracts over 1.5 million foreign tourists in January
PANO - More than 1.5 million foreign tourists visited Vietnam in the first month of 2019, up by 5% against the same period last year and by 9.3% compared to the figure of December 2018, according to figures released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam on January 29.
In January 2019, the number of visitors travelling by air reached over 1 million, accounting for 77.7% (up 1.4% compared to January 2018). Those travelling by road rose to approximately 310,000, an increase of 26.9% in comparison to the same period in 2018. Meanwhile, the number of visitors travelling by sea went down 30.5% year-on-year to 24,000.
In addition, the number of domestic tourists is estimated to reach 6.6 million in January 2019. The turnover of the tourism sector rose to VND 56,500 billion, up 6.6% compared to the same period last year.
