Russian citizens, who plan stay in Vietnam for no more than 15 days, regardless of entry purposes, will be exempt from visa requirements as of January 1st, 2009.
To be exempt visa requirements, a Russian citizen must not be on the “black list” of the Vietnamese Immigration Service, and must hold a passport valid for at least 3-month prior to entering Vietnam, and they must have a valid visa for the country of the next destination after Vietnam.
Russians, who want to stay in Vietnam for more than 15 days must present valid reasons for their stay and they will need introductory letters from a Vietnamese organization, or individual, which must be sent to the Ministry of Public Security or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 2008, Vietnam became the third country in Southeast Asia to exempt visa requirements for Russian tourists ,after Thailand and Laos.
