The observatory construction was started in 2014. It was located in Hon Chong, a tourist destination in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa province. This area is also one of the best places in Vietnam for star-gazers.
The observatory consists of a planetarium projector with a total area of about 343sq.m, and is equipped with modern equipment, including a nine-meter wide dome and a modern astronomical telescope with 0.3m in diameter.
This is one of the two astronomical observatory projects built within the framework of the National Satellite Center (VNSC)’s projects at a total cost of USD 600 million. The other one built inside the Vietnam Space Museum in the Hoa Lạc High-Tech Park (Hanoi) is expected to be finished in 2018.
