Party official visits Buddhists in Southern localities
Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Mass Mobilization Commission Truong Thi Mai on May 5 visited and extended greetings to Buddhist dignitaries in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on the occasion of the Buddha’s 2563rd birth anniversary.
On behalf of the Party and State, Mai wished the dignitaries and followers good health, peace in mind and continued achievements in their religious career. She also thanked them for their contributions to the national construction and defense.

Informing them of the coming third Vesak day to be held later this month in Vietnam, the official said over 500 delegations and many leaders of foreign countries are scheduled to attend the international event, and this is a joy not only to Buddhist organizations and followers in Vietnam but also to the party, State and people of the country.
On behalf of the Buddhist dignitaries and followers in Can Tho province, Most Venerable Thich Giac Nhuong thanked the Party, State and the Vietnam Fatherland Front for their facilitation of the religious practices. He also pledged to encourage practitioners and followers to remain united around the Party and State in building a developed and beautiful country.
Earlier the same day, Mai also visited prek On Dok in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on the occasion.
The Mekong Delta in the South of Vietnam is home to a large community of Buddhist followers.
