Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen was a former Politburo member, former Vice Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now the Deputy Prime Minister of the government), former Deputy Minister of National Defense, and former Commander of Truong Son Corps (Mission 559).

At the press conference, the Quang Binh provincial Department of Culture and Sports announced that the province has been coordinating with relevant units to organize a series of activities to honor Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen for his great contribution to national liberation, reunification, construction and defense cause.

Attentively, two significant activities will take place on February 24, namely the Ministry of National Defense-level seminar on Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen themed “Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen - An excellent practical activist of the Vietnamese revolution, an outstanding son of Quang Binh,” and a ceremony to mark his 100th birthday.

Meanwhile, various activities will be conducted, including the ceremonies to offer incense and flowers at the grave of Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen in Vinh Hang cemetery park in Ba Vi district, Hanoi, at his family in Quang Trung commune, Ba Don town, and at the temple dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh and heroic martyrs in Dong Hoi city; an exhibition on Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen; and a stage performance at the north bank of Xuan Son ferry, Phong Nha townlet, Bo Trach district, to name but a few.

Addressing the event, Mr. Ho An Phong, Vice Chairman of the Quang Binh provincial People’s Committee, underlined that these activities aim to express deep gratitude of the province’s Party committee, authorities and people to Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen.

Mr. Phong hoped that the national and local press agencies will accompany the province in information dissemination about activities to celebrate the 100th birthday of Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen.
