Launched in October, 2016, by February, 2017, the organizers of the contest had received 1,171,328 entries from school students across the country. The National Jury Board of the contest selected 100 letters for the final round and awarded one first prize, three second prizes, five third prizes, and 30 consolation prizes to outstanding entries.

61 prizes for potential writers and three extra prizes for visually-impaired or disabled students were also presented. Eighth grader Nguyen Do Huyen Vi from Tay Son Secondary School (Hai Chau district, Da Nang City) won the first prize. Vi’s letter will be translated into French and English to compete at the 46th UPU International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People in Switzerland.
