Ho Chi Minh City okays Can Gio bridge
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has approved a proposal to build the 3.4km Can Gio Bridge above the Soai Rap River linking Can Gio district with the inner city.
The district of Can Gio is one of Ho Chi Minh City’s popular tourist destinations.
The Can Gio Urban and Tourism JSC and Trung Nam Construction Investment JSC had submitted a proposal to build the bridge, which will have four lanes and a clearance of 55 meters above the river.
It is expected to cost VND 8 trillion (USD 351.3 million).
Simultaneously, Rung Sac street leading from the river to Can Gio will be upgraded and widened by the Can Gio Urban and Tourism JSC.
The bridge will help reduce travel time between the rest of Ho Chi Minh City and Can Gio district by replacing the Binh Khanh ferry which had become a burden due to the increase in the number of passengers.
In addition to the obvious economic benefits better connectivity will bring, the bridge is also expected to help develop tourism in Can Gio.
