Doctors perform trans-Vietnam heart transplant.

Accordingly, on the night of August 22, Hanoi-based Saint Paul Hospital received a 32-year-old man in critical condition following a severe traffic accident. Doctors did a clinical evaluation and suspected that the patient’s brain was dead. The patient’s family made a compassionate decision to donate his organs.

Following directives from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, the donor’s heart was designated for a patient with severe heart disease at the University Medical Central of Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University.

Immediately, at 8 p.m. on August 24, the medical team transported the donated heart to the airport for its journey to Ho Chi Minh City.

Then, the surgery, which lasted through the night, concluded at 3 a.m. on August 25. Within approximately 10 hours, the heart began beating again in the body of the patient.
