Heroic Vietnamese mother Ho Thi Thang and her youngest son

PANO - Aged 89, heroic Vietnamese mother Ho Thi Thang has sent an open letter and presented her saving book with VND 200,000 a month since January 2014 till her death to forces who are safeguarding national sovereignty over Hoang Sa waters.

Her good deed came after watching television and reading newspapers recently. The mother was indignant with China at its illegal placement of the drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. She was also moved with brave and resilience of fishermen and Vietnam law enforcement forces surmounting hardship to hold onto the sea to protect national sacred sovereignty.

Mother Ho Thi Thang, a native in Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province, is living in a gratitude house in village 25, Ea Ning commune, Cu Kuin district, Dak Lak province. Her first son sacrificed in 1967 in a fierce battle in Binh Dao-Thang Binh Front in the anti-American resistance war. More heart-rending, two years later, her husband, a front cadre stationed in the locality, died in an air strike at his shelter. Her second son also sacrificed later. Despites huge losses, she kept serving the revolution and feeding her 5 children.

The mother held that her present was to give more strength to troops defending national sacred sovereignty over its sea and islands.
