Fishermen in distress rescued
PANO – Ship SAR-413 of the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center successfully saved five troubled fishermen at sea.
At 18:30 on October 1, trawler BTh-96297TS with five members on board sank due to high waves about seven nautical miles off the Vung Tau coast (Ba Ria-Vung Tau province) while it was heading for the open sea.
Crewmembers of trawler BTh-96297TS were transferred to ship SAR-413
Upon receiving the mayday signal, the center immediately sent its on-duty ship, SAR-413, to the scene.
Due to tough sea and strong winds, it took the rescuers one hour to approach the troubled fishing boat to save all fishermen, and, at 23:20 the same day, the SAR-413 safely transported the fishermen ashore.
* On the same day, ship SAR-272 of the center located and then handed over the body of fisherman Vo Hai Bien, 1991, a native from Phu Yen province, of late working on trawler KH-98479TS, to relevant agencies, to be later given to family members for funeral rites. Earlier, the crew-member had unfortunately fallen overboard into rough seas and was lost while the fishing boat was anchored at Ben Dam bay (Con Dao district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province).
