Public companies should pay due attention to fulfilling their social responsibilities and ensuring occupational safety and health for workers, said experts at a seminar held in Hanoi on Dec. 19.

The seminar was held by the Vietnam Occupational Safety & Health Association (VOSHA) under the chairmanship of VOSHA president, Nguyen An Luong.

Participants discussed the social responsibility of public companies, with a focus on occupational safety and health in the current context when Vietnam is implementing the Doi Moi (Renewal) process and developing a multi-sector economy.

They said that to achieve a high and sustainable growth, public companies have to increase their public profile, productivity and revenue, develop brand awareness and protect the environment.

According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Hong from the VOSHA, it is essential to combine environmental protection with business operations. Workers need to have knowledge about occupational safety and health, while businesses must take social responsibility seriously, he added.

Delegates at the seminar also stressed that workers have to follow labour safety regulations and take an active role in combating corruption.
