Denmark shares experience in developing sustainable urban areas
PANO - The Danish Embassy in Vietnam and other relevant local agencies co-held a workshop on sustainable urban development and planning in Hanoi on November 27.
The event, as part of the Danish Week – Sustainable and livable cities, focused on experience, achievements and lessons shared by Danish experts in the progress to develop Copenhagen into the world's most livable city.
In his remarks, the Counselor at the Danish Embassy Bo Mønsted underlined that growing urbanization would motivate an increasing demand for new sustainable urban solutions, particularly in developing countries like Vietnam.
Denmark is viewed as the world’s leading nation in green technology so this Scandinavian country has both willingness and capacity to support metropolises like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to find sustainable solutions to their issues and improve the quality of local people’s lives, he added.
At present, the rapid urbanization in Vietnam has brought about many challenges to the country, notably impacts of climate change. Therefore, it is vital to develop these cities in a green and sustainable way.
The Danish Week brings together policymakers, urban planners, architects and private companies from Vietnam as well as leading experts in urban planning from Denmark. It was the second time the program had been held in Vietnam.
