The conference saw the attendance of representatives from medical centres and major hospitals under the Ministry of Health, with over 700 online connections located in 63 provinces and cities nationwide.

In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long, Acting Minister of Health outlined how the centre of the epidemic has been identified at three hospitals in Da Nang, with particularly emphasis on Da Nang Hospital. With the discovery of several COVID-19 cases that have been transmitted locally, the Ministry of Health has conducted an analysis of epidemiology and related factors, but has so far failed to discover a link between community-associated cases and those at hospitals based in the central city.

Moving forward with determination to prevent and minimise COVID-19-related deaths in Da Nang, the Ministry of Health has taken drastic actions by moving to establish a special permanent section of the Ministry of Health in the city. This body will be under the direct guidance of Deputy Minister of Health Ass. Prof. Nguyen Truong Son and will send the nation’s leading teams in virology to the central city in an effort to assist in pandemic prevention and control.

According to the Ministry of Health, the situation relating to the COVID-19 outbreak in Da Nang remains highly complicated, largely due to over 800,000 people visiting the city since early July. Furthermore, the majority of these travelers have since returned to various localities around the country, with more than 41,000 people visiting three hospitals in Da Nang.

The Ministry of Health has therefore asked localities, especially those related to the recent outbreaks in Da Nang to devise lists whilst supervising and monitoring all returnees. In addition, warning messages should be sent instructing these people to monitor their health and contact local medical facilities as soon as possible for further advice, in order to monitor and test to detect the COVID-19 as early as possible.

Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long called for the entire health sector to show great determination to utilise its knowledge and experience in an effort to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the online conference, Ass. Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director of Department of Medical Examination and Treatment under the Ministry of Health, and Deputy Head of the Treatment Sub-Committee under the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention of Epidemic, said documents regarding management and treatment of COVID-19 patients belonging to the Prime Minister and the steering committees have been publicised.

Elsewhere, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Gia Binh, former head of the Department of Active Resuscitation of Bach Mai Hospital, updated all new contents which offers details about the treatment and experience of COVID-19 patients in Da Nang.
