17 distressed fishermen taken ashore safely
PANO – On May 26, Ship SAR 273 of the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the Vietnam Maritime Administration of the Ministry of Transport took 17 fishermen aboard distressed trawler NA - 91927TS to Lach Quen port in Nghe An province’s Quynh Luu district safely.
The trawler with Ho Van Tien from Tien Thuy commune, Quynh Luu district at the helm experienced a gearbox failure. Fishermen on board failed to fix the problem and anchored the trawler around 70 nautical miles Northeast of the Lach Quen estuary.
In the strong winds and foggy weather which might endanger fishermen’s lives, the trawler’s captain asked the center for help.
Upon receiving the information, the center requested the captain to stay in touch with the center, update the fishermen’s health conditions while sending Ship SAR 273 to the scene for the rescue mission.
At 10:18a.m. on May 26, the crew-members on ship SAR 273 approached the troubled trawler, provided health check-ups for fishermen, and took them ashore.
