On September 26, the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee held a ceremony to inaugurate the first phase of the Vinh Tuy Bridge in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.
The Vinh Tuy Bridge is one of seven bridges spanning over the Red River and is recognised as Hanoi’s major transport project.
In his speech, Deputy PM Hai said the operation of the Vinh Tuy bridge will complete a zoning plan for belt-road No 2 which will help improve transport infrastructure, ease traffic congestion in urban areas and boost socio-economic development between Hanoi and the Red River Delta and coastal provinces.
Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen The Thao said putting this phase of the Vinh Tuy bridge project into operation is significant in the lead up to the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
The first phase of the project began in March 2005 at a total cost of VND3,600 billion, and the second phase is due to begin in August next year with a total investment capital of more than VND2,000 billion.
