Viettel today inaugurated NATCOM telecom network in the Latin American country of Haiti following the successful operation of its network in Laos and Cambodia.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Viettel’s Deputy-CEO, said Viettel decided to invest in Haiti, a poor and earthquake-prone country because such challenges would help Viettel materialise its dream of becoming a global company.

Viettel holds more than half of the shares of NATCOM, a partly state-owned telecom company of Haiti. Viettel plans to turn NATCOM into the biggest such company in Haiti in two years time despites the fact that Digicell (from Caribbean countries) and Voila (from USA) have been dominating Haiti’s telecom market.

Viettel has been licensed to invest in Laos, Cambodia, Haiti, Mozambique and Peru to meet the demand of around 500 million foreign customers by 2015 and 1 billion by 2020 and to be one of the ten largest telecom companies in the world.
