The nine-day visit was aimed at updating the wildlife trafficking situation along the Indo-Burma hotspot, including parts of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and southern China.

The delegation also conducted a survey on the cross-border wildlife trade in several medicine markets in Guangzhou city, China as well as in border gates between Vietnam, Laos and China.

Statistics from the Ministry of Public Security estimated that about 4,000-4,500 tons of wildlife products are illegally trafficked into Vietnam each year.
