PANO - The 2013 Kovalevskaia Awards were presented to two female scientists in Hanoi on the International Women’s Day, March 8th.
The awardees are Associate Professor, Doctor Le Thi Luan, Deputy Director of the Centre for the Reach and Production of Vaccines and Bioproducts under the Ministry of Health and Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, former Director of the Building Materials and Structure Protection Department under the Institute for Transport Science and Technology under the Ministry of Transport.
Addressing the ceremony held by the Vietnam Women's Union, Politburo member, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Le Hong Anh hailed and congratulated the two scientists for their achievements and believed that the awards would be a driving force for Vietnamese women to make more active contributions to the cause of national building and protection.
The Politburo member expected more researches would be applied in reality to boost production and quality of products as well as raise competitiveness of “Made-in-Vietnam” goods in international markets.
To date, 41 individuals and 16 groups of outstanding female scientists in natural and applied fields have won the prestigious awards named after the great Russian female mathematician Sofia Kovalevskaia.
On the occasion, 16 female doctors who successfully defended their doctoral thesis in 2013 were presented with merit certificates.
